This course is designed for leaders and managers who are looking to understand and develop sustainability procedures and implement actions within their business.

Course provider: West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges, lead delivery by Dr Joanne Harvatt & Clair Kerry with WYCC Co-trainers. 

Eligibility - You must be aged 19+ and live in West Yorkshire for those wanting to embed sustainability into their organisation.

Industry: Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing and Green

Start dates: Cohort 1 – 24th May, 31st May, 7th June, 21st June (last day)

Cohort 2 – 28th June, 5th July, 12th July & 26th July (last day)

Cohort 3 – 25th, 26th, 27th June & 11th July (last day)

Cohort 4 -  TBC mid-July 2024

Duration: 4 days

Overview/summary of training

This course will give you a high-level overview that will support your company on their path to net zero and sustainability by providing useful skills, tools and techniques to take forward an action plan within the business.

Designed for leaders and managers, this course is for those who are looking to understand and improve sustainability practices and implement actions within their business.

Subjects that will be covered include:

Day 1:  Carbon Literacy for Businesses

 This includes an overview of the basic science of climate change as well as an understanding of the actions required by businesses and individuals in order to set us on a path towards a more sustainable future.

Day 2:  The Role and Influence of the Business

This includes practical steps to reduce carbon and influence others to encourage sustainable behaviour such as

ISO 14001 Certification benefits, carbon savings along with internal influence, communication and creating a positive culture to encourage sustainable behaviour.

Day 3: Sustainable Management Tools and Principles

This will focus on a range of leadership and management techniques including corporate social responsibility (CSR), project life cycle and change management.

Day 4: Net Zero/Environmental Action Planning

Peer to peer action planning workshops and sharing best practice.

Progressions after the completion of this course:  

  • Increased responsibilities within your job
  • The creation of a green role within your organisation
  • Evidence of embedding sustainability through action plan development

In addition, this would provide a pre-curser to other courses such as NEBOSH and environmental standards such as ISO 14001 Certification - Environmental Management.
