Eligibility: You must be aged 19+ and live in West Yorkshire, unemployed or employed.

Industry: Construction 

Start dates: May-July 2024

Duration: 10 days over a period of 2 weeks

Venue: Forging Futures Campus, Kirkstall Forge, Leeds, LS5 3NF

Overview/summary of training

This course aims to develop the knowledge, skills, behaviours, and attitudes that you would require to start or progress a career in the construction sector as a site operative. 

The course offers a mixed approach of classroom and on site learning. 

Skills covered in the course are as follows:

Week 1 (Monday – Friday)  

Day 1 – Course Introduction, Assessments & tool box talk   

Day 2 - Health and Safety Awareness in readiness for green card   

Day 3 - Manual Handling/Asbestos Awareness  

Day 4 – Emergency First Aid  

Day 5 – Self Study Day – CSCS Revision and consolidation

Week 2 (Monday -  Friday)  

Day 1 - Portable Power Tool Safety Training  /Working at Height  

Day 2 - Abrasive Wheels with practical (cutting/grinding)  

Day 3 - Fire Safety   

Day 4 - Self Study Day – CSCS Revision and consolidation  

Day 5 – Employer Day – Graduation Event 

At various stages through the training, employer and employee guest speakers will discuss opportunities and their personal stories with you. The course is aimed at new entrants or more experienced Site Operatives who want to progress in their careers. The course will provide existing employees with proper recognition of their skills, which will increase their career opportunities, as well as providing them with additional competency in a range of subjects.

What next?

There will be support for new entrants to industry employment with existing partners and others. Career development and progression for the already employed. Career change opportunities and employment.
