This course is aimed at the construction sector and for those of you who are looking to progress in your career by taking further qualifications.

The qualification is particularly useful to the Civil Engineering and House Builder sector.

Excavator 360 operators are in demand in the local area and receive higher wages than labourers and general site operatives.

Eligibility: You must be aged 19+ and live in West Yorkshire

Industry: Construction 

Start dates: 

Cohort 1 – 3rd June 2024 to 14th June 2024

Cohort 2 – 24th June 2024 to 5th July 2024

Cohort 3 – 15th July 2024 to 26th July 2024

Duration: 10 days per cohort

Venue: Birkwood Plant Training, 22 Weeland Road, Crofton, Wakefield, WF4 1LN

Overview/summary of training

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their roles and responsibilities as a plant operator

Preparing the machine for works: 

  • Name and explain the principle components, the basic construction of the machine and controls and terminology  
  • Conform with manufacturers requirements as per the operators manual, other types of information and regulations and legislation  
  • Complete pre-use and running checks
  • Understanding Lift Charts/Plans

Travelling and manoeuvring the machine: 

  • Configure and set the machine
  • Travel over varying terrain
  • Manoeuvre in confined areas

Setting up for work: 

  • Configure and set for excavating duties
  • Explain actions for hazards, underground and overhead services

Working tasks: 

  • Excavate different types of excavations in various types of ground
  • Place materials into transporting vehicles
  • Grade, spread and level ground and materials
  • Attach and remove buckets
  • Lift, travel, move and place slung loads

Shutting down: 

  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures
  • Explain loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting 

On completion and achievement of the 10 day training, you will gain either a CPCS or NPORS trained operator card.

Individuals working on site as labourers often seek to progress to plant operations, and one route is extracting and excavating with a 360 machine. Excavator 360 operators potential earning are higher than those of labourers as by their nature they involve supervision of tasks and other team members.

Unemployed Progression Route

Unemployed individuals are very likely to gain an interview and paid employment with this qualification.
