The course is aimed at team leaders, site supervisors and     construction workers of all levels in the construction industry, as well as those looking to step into a supervisory role.

Overview/summary of training

This course is for first line managers and those who have or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities. It provides an introduction to health, safety, welfare and environmental issues for those requiring an understanding of your legal responsibilities relevant to your work activities. It will provide a sound knowledge base to enable you to give valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site. You will be taught on maintaining a positive health and safety culture within the workplace, best practice and communications.

To pass the SSSTS course you must:

  • Complete all 2 days.
  • Successfully interact with the class and pass exercises set during the course.
  • Complete and pass a multiple-choice assessment end of the course.

On achievement participants will receive a certificate which will be valid for 5 years.

SSSTS will reinforce essential knowledge and capabilities on site.

 

What next?

Employed progression route: You are likely to looking to progress into a role as a team leader, or supervisor and take on greater responsibility within the scope of their work.

Self Employed progression route: SSSTS if often a minimum requirement for small companies to tender for works therefore this would open many more avenues for self-employed individuals. It would also increase access to opportunities allowing you to take on more responsibilities resulting in increased turnover.

Unemployed progression route: You will probably have worked in the construction industry and are looking to progress into a role as a team leader, or supervisor and take on greater responsibility and oversight of construction projects. There will be extensive work prior to the course to ensure you are fully equipped before the training commences. In addition, there will be much emphasis on pre and post course support as well as tracking for progression identification. Birkwood and WYCC will work with alongside the industry and you to ensure a successful progression is made, whether this is support into employment, onto an apprenticeship or progression within your employment, to secure more opportunities or an increase in salary. This activity will be monitored and supported through routine calls, meetings with employers, coaching towards employment opportunities and connections between you and employers in the region
