Preparing the workforce for the transition to a net-zero economy, this programme explores how employers can adapt to a net zero economy in the UK and ensure people are reskilled to do a ‘green job’. 

Ideal for individuals, team leaders, and employees, looking to upskill a key manager or employee to become an In House Sustainability Champion. Also suitable for individuals looking to get back to work, returning to the workplace after taking time out for caring or looking for a change in career or to get back into employment.

Eligibility - you must be aged 19+ and live in West Yorkshire, this is a pilot programme so places are strictly limited to one individual per organisation / setting

Course overview

You will be introduced to Green Skills Sector with a mix of live workshops and webinars, covering insights into sustainable practices such as energy and water usage savings and waste reduction. you will gain an understanding around the language and principles of the climate emergency, net zero and carbon footprint.

Content is focussed on commercial properties and premises but could be relatable to domestic buildings. 

  • Introduction to climate emergency / environmental challenges
  • Net Zero – Carbon footprint
  • Circular Economy
  • Types of renewable energy
  • Design and Energy audit
  • Energy saving initiatives – retrofit - insulation – appliance efficiency
  • Benefits of retrofit – issues around older properties/commercial buildings
  • Waste reduction – identifying waste - audit of current waste
  • Recycling options
  • Water usage and reduction strategies
  • Energy reduction strategies
  • Developing a sustainability plan – implementation measures ‘toolkit’
  • Specialist advice or service directory - signposting
  • Progression routes

You will be given a ‘toolkit’ of practical measures that can be implemented at a commercial and potentially, a domestic level, plus the knowledge to identify and potentially, procure specialist advice and services.

You will be required to complete, relevant to your area of work that you are in or interested in, a ‘real time’ project based on

  • Your organisational remit, which would include the preparation of sustainable / green action plans / reports and proposals to present to senior leaders.
  • A Net Zero Audit for your employer or for those who are unemployed an audit for one of our Employer Partners. There is the opportunity to present this to an audience of employers and your learning group/tutors.

You may also feed into bids for work or funding grants that require evidence of environmental or green credentials.

Achieve a unit of (Project Management and Principles of Management and Leadership, or a unit of a Green Skill Qualification, with NCFE)
